when i am 65.

my health professor gave us the extra credit option of writing a page about what we think we'll be like when we are 65 years old. i love that man. he is about 74 himself, if i did the math correctly. he said, "don't make it boring!" so of course i took the 20 free points and ran with it. care to take a glimpse into hypothetical 65 year old mallory? (honestly i don't care what i'm like, i just hope i'm married and not morbidly obese & sedentary. am i right?)

By the time I am 65 years old, I hope that I will have been successful enough in my adult life to be living a comfortable lifestyle. I doubt I will be retired because, let’s be honest, the economy here in America is requiring a bit more than a bunch of old people sitting around and doing nothing after the age of 65 nowadays. It’s a sad reality, but if I’m doing something I love, it wouldn’t be bad at all. If all goes according to plan, I will be a veterinarian or working with animals somehow because that’s the career I see myself loving and doing for the rest of my life.

I will be married and very happily so. My husband and I will be that adorable old couple that people always take pictures of holding hands and laughing with each other in their old age. We will set a precedent for young people and they will say, “Gee, I really hope I’m that cute and happy when I’m older!” My husband and I will be very well traveled and will have several adorable grandchildren whose rooms will be filled with various trinkets that we’ve brought them from around the world. Our house doesn’t have to be an enormous castle; we’ll have a modest home just as long as it is by the ocean and with lots of trees and the sea breeze will keep us young.

If I turn out at all like my grandmother, I will be a very put together old lady. I don’t think that getting older is an excuse to stop taking care of yourself. In fact, I think I’ll continue to love fashion and style all through my life and with age, my sense of style will grow exponentially instead of decreasing. I will wear bright lipstick and have a foxy, spiky haircut and wear enormous jewels and loud colors. I’ll flaunt my wrinkles! I’ll have all kinds of hobbies like gardening and sewing and I’ll do water aerobics and yoga with all of my best friends that I will have grown old with. I hope I will sit on a comfortable chair by the beach and read book after book all day long. And I will be perfectly happy having 10 cats, fitting the stereotype perfectly.

It seems like so many old people that I’ve met are grumpy, confused and falling apart. I have always vowed never to be like that. I’m going to everything I can to be happy. I’ll be put together, be living comfortably, have great style and take good care of myself. Why should I do anything less?

cheers to old people!!

ridiculous statistics. and a nice picture

I woke up on a cleaning rampage this morning and went through my closet. Filled up two whole garbage bags full of clothes. I also sorted everything in there and have come to the sad realization that I own:
1 jacket
3 dresses
3 scarves
6 cardigans
6 skirts
18 tops
and
11 pants and jeans

FROM DOWNEAST. Holy. Moley. That is after I got rid of a bunch of stuff too....

I want to go to Alaska REALLY bad.

forget aliens. earthquakes. a massive meteor.

Have you seen this? How have I not heard of this until last week???

Well, the world has got to end sometime. I say it might as well go out with a bang and end with a zombie apocalypse.

On Sunday we went skiing and it was quite sunny. My face is sizzled. There is a cute thick red line on my forehead where my googles and hat weren't covering. Raccoon eyes to the max. If one more thing goes wrong with my face this week I will just wear a paper bag over my head.

ST. GEORGE/VEGAS tomorrow. Things I am most stoked for: 1. NO SCHOOL 2. Quality Ace time and 3. SHOPPING.
H&M and I will be beeeest friends. I've had my eye on you.

^I LOVE CORAL.

^And big rings.

ARCADE FIRE. AH.

HOORAY.

day 14: my dreamz.

Marry this crazy person

Live in Oregon somewhere near the coast

Be one of these with animals always surrounding me all over like this

Just any profession where I get to see/work with animals, really. Anything. I'd also love to do something in fashion.
I dream of being rich enough to go to New York and SHOP the days away. And owning a wardrobe filled with JCrew, Anthropologie and UO.
I dream of reading piles and piles and piles of books.
I also dream of meeting Sondre Lerche and JK Rowling and the men of MGMT.
I also want bout 3 (ginger) children, and a menagerie. I want cats. Dogs. Bunnies. Goats. Birds. Fish. A giant aquarium. So many freakin' fish cause I freakin' love them. And rodents. All of it. And I want, I NEED, CHUCKENS, WANDERING ALL OVER MY FRONT YARD.
And I wanna travel the world with Chris doing good things. And to grow old with my 11 best friends and rock on our porches til dusk discussing the wonders of life.
I want to die shortly after my hubz does, or vise versa. And to die satisfied. And go to heav. I'm excited.
It all BETTER come true.

oh the places you'll go.

The other night I was playing Phase 10 with my parents and my mom asked me and my dad, "If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?"
Well. I thought about that.
I would love to go to Iceland because it is so incredibly green.
Kauai, Hawaii.
I want to go somewhere in South America. Somewhere very rainforest-y. A jungle.
I would quite like to go to Alaska also. Whale watching. Norwhals.
Backpacking through Europe.
I want to go to Palau, an island in the Pacific ocean. There is a lake there filled with jellyfish that don't sting, and you can swim with them.
The Louvre.
London.
The Pyramids.
Machu Picchu.
The Statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Great Barrier Reef.
The Monterrey Bay Aquarium, California.
Greece.

Oh you bet I'll do it all someday, people.
I love Utah. But I want to get out of here for a while. It is too sheltered.

so sick of doing homework

So I took a break and looked at this for a while. I want to spend forever on that blog. I LOVE ANIMALS SO DERN MUCH! They are the best things on the earth. I just want to watch them and cuddle them and learn about them and be friends with them and help them all the time. They are so innocent and happy. They are so smart. And really funny. And incredibly beautiful. They are the GREATEST.

Yesterday night Gary was sleeping on my bed and yawned and I saw blood in his mouth. So I looked in there and there is a HUGE gash on his tongue. It is the most painful thing to look at. It just gives me the chills thinking about how it happened and how bad it must hurt. It looks like a hook caught it and ripped a huge chunk out. It is all purple and red and white; it is really the worst. I would take a picture and show but it would probably make you throw up. My poor kitty. Bleh.

I will live on the Oregon coast and it will always be overcast and misty from the ocean. I'll have a huge staircase going up to our front porch just like on The Goonies.
I will have a menagerie of course. A bunny. Plenty of chuckens. An orange cat. And all the other animals my mom never let me have.

Oh, and all of my children will be gingers.
Oops. Did I just say that.
