optimism.

i feel really excellent about school. i've made goals for myself. i will complete all homework assignments the day they are assigned. no more procrastinating. i will be on time. i will wake up on time. i'm going to kick chemistry where it counts. it's all working. all going according to plan. the people watching is exquisite. i love being in school with ginger again. i see him in the halls a lot and it is refreshing. everyone is wearing cute oxfords. i am actually looking forward to going tomorrow. i feel like i'm getting it all. i'm dodging expensive book prices left and right. i'm seeing lots of people that i know. i'm not falling asleep in class at 9 am. i'm going to bed at a decent time. i'm feeling accomplished. i didn't make a fool of myself on the first day of school, for once. i'm not on any wait lists. i avoided my horrific chem lab teacher from last semester. where did all this motivation come from? please, please stay. i'm just so glad. so glad. i hope your first two days of school were good too.

forget aliens. earthquakes. a massive meteor.

Have you seen this? How have I not heard of this until last week???

Well, the world has got to end sometime. I say it might as well go out with a bang and end with a zombie apocalypse.

On Sunday we went skiing and it was quite sunny. My face is sizzled. There is a cute thick red line on my forehead where my googles and hat weren't covering. Raccoon eyes to the max. If one more thing goes wrong with my face this week I will just wear a paper bag over my head.

ST. GEORGE/VEGAS tomorrow. Things I am most stoked for: 1. NO SCHOOL 2. Quality Ace time and 3. SHOPPING.
H&M and I will be beeeest friends. I've had my eye on you.

^I LOVE CORAL.

^And big rings.

This is what my math notes look like when I'm running on little to no sleep and my eyes keep shutting.

full of humor.

Do you know what I think is awesome. Chubby men are always thee funniest people ever.
Like Jack Black,

And Zach Galifianakis,

And Mr. Sanderson at the high school, he is so hilarious.
One time we were taking a math test and it was silent and he walked in and said "It smells like swaaaaaaaa....ss..." and he couldn't stop saying it but he was trying to. But he just couldn't stop. Oh he is great. Miss him. A chubby guy came into work the other night, and he was saying the funniest things. You all know it's true.

Oh, and yesterday was the last day of biology lab and we are studying Darwin and natural selection and stuff, and we had to go around and flip coins with everyone in the class and "mate" with them. "Random mating" or something.
"Are you guys mating?"
"We're mating right now."
"It's for science."
"I know you have a boyfriend, but..."
"Hey thanks for mating with me."
"Oh it was my pleasure."
"Whoa. You're getting a little eager there."
"Have we mated yet?"
"Hey we're mating. K go."

It was like high school all over again.

wishful thinking

For Christmas?

I cannot express my joy that the semester is almost over.
These 3 months have been the most stressful and ridiculous of my life.
Yesterday I was at UVU from 8 am to 9:30 pm. GAH!
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Huzzah.

guess what exists???

This is what I learned in school today.

They are called Glyptodons and they are armadillos' uncles.

When I am a really rich biologist, or doctor, or policewoman, or whatever I turn out to be, I'm going to buy two islands on the opposite sides of the Earth and throw some birds on it and give the islands to my grandchildren, and they will pass them on to their grandchildren and so on. And we will see how the birds change. If they turn purple or if they grow spikes on their feet or if they start to blow fire to adapt to their environment over time. It would be the ultimate experiment. Evolution is crazy.
I don't get how people can say it's either evolution or God. I think that God controls evolution. He makes it happen, just like He makes everything else happen. Simple as that. And I don't get how people can say evolution doesn't exist. Of course it does, or we'd still have dinosaurs running around.
Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind. - Albert Einstein

Sometimes I hope that they'll make wooly mammoths come back to life. It's possible. Soft tissue samples and whatnot. Sometimes I wish they'd make dinosaurs too. I think about that a lot. How WEIRD would that be? Someday I bet it'll happen. We'd have to be so careful. What if a raptor got loose in Africa and killed all the lions? It could throw everything out of balance. We would have to be so careful that it would almost be pointless to bring them back. They would have to be kept in a cage. Still, insane to think about. Playing God? I wonder what He thinks of it.

Good news. I learned another scientific name. I now know 2 by heart.
Drosophila Melanogaster - Fruit fly
Felis Concolor - Mountain lion

I'm excited to see my Gran & Gramps tonight.

things are looking up.

And I mean REHEHEHEEEEALLY looking up. Cause guess who doesn't have to take a math class ever again after next semester? THIS GIRL.

Totally off that subject,
Last night after work I went with Chris to say our goodbyes to his friends Colby Richards who is missioning in Germany and Jared Reynolds who is missioning in Uruguay. Erik and I were chatting and doing our perpetual nodding without saying anything at each other and he asked me "So are you going to cry?" and I said "Naw." We got to Colby's house and everyone had red eyes. It was the saddest. As I was leaving I went to shake Colby's hand and promptly started bawling. This is hard stuff. Hard, hard stuff. Reality is starting to hit me. And smack and punch and slap me. I thought I knew everything. I don't.
But......
I CAN DO IT!

I must.

the college diaries.

uvu. starting to lurve it. it's been an interesting first week.
thursday. got completely lost because one of my classes changed rooms. and i was 45 minutes late to class. then i had to walk super far to my math class and when i got there i thought i was late so i just walked in. and the room was silent and full of people who stared openly at me. two minutes after i sat down, everyone in the class got up and left. it was the class before mine. i'm an idiot.
on the plus side, even though i was sweating profusely, smelled bad, and looked nasty and flustered, a nice boy came up to me in math and said "hey, you're in my english class." and sat beside me. i knew straight off that painting would be a hit. my teacher is an old woman with grey hurr to her shoulders. and she wore a hawaiian shirt with bright orange crocs and spectacles.
this week. nice math boy sat next to me again and asked what my name was, then walked with me from english to math because we have both those classes together. what are the odds? his name is matt. i saw joe lyons, a long lost friend, at the cafe. he is a cashier. it was grand to see him. now here's where it gets scary. in my painting class there are about 3 boys. one of them, on the first day, was flirting with all the girls and bragging to the class about all of his skills. how he does "graphic painting." what is that???? not something that exists. so i told my mom about him and she told me, "there is a weirdo in EVERY art class, mal. he is the one." so yesterday, i walked out of painting by myself and went to the shuttle stop and was sitting there alone. then, HE walks up. him. creepy weird art boy. of all people. and sits down. then he starts doing small talk. and i sort of painfully went along with it. then he said, "i've been doing graphic painting for a while now. yeah. i just wanted to take it to the canvas." yeah, pal, i know. that is EXACTLY what you told the entire class on the first day. then he scooted closer. it was a miracle when the shuttle came. i got on and he sat next to me; who would have guessed? i tried my hardest to ignore him. looking down, fiddling with my phone, the whole nine yards. then he looks and me and says,
"hey, uh, i don't think i'm going to make it to the next couple of classes...do you think i could have your number as a contact? yeah, i know, i know, this is like a cheesey way to get your number."
ohhhh gosh. how could i say no? i couldn't.
"yeah, sure."
gave it to him. then, he asks for my first AND last name. and then, he says, "now i'm going to call it and make sure you didn't give me a fake number." and creepy smiles at me. so even if i wanted to reject him or get out of it, he made sure i couldn't. ridiculous. and he told me his name is steven. all i can think about is that video "the greatest freakout ever." the video where that kid goes ballistic after his mom cancels his world of warcraft account. that kid's name is steven. after 17 years we made it to the parking lot and i got out of there real fast. my mom laughed forever when i told her. sit tight, kids, and let's see what kind of havoc he wreaks with my number!

school: day 1.

Today was my first day of COLLEEGE. Bleh. How weird is that? I only had one class, the namesake of my major: Biology. It was wonderful to have to go to only one class.
As I REFUSE to pay EIGHTY DOLLARS on a student parking pass, I park in the free parking then take the free shuttle to the school, which takes about 5 minutes (many thanks to Chris for all the helpful college tips). The bus was filled to the brim with 20 year old boys and I could practically see the Axe in the air. It smelled like pure testosterone.
Got to class in no time at all (for free, did I mention?) And again, filled with 20 year old men. Not many cute ones. Bummer. I think there are 5 girls in my class. Not to worry, I still have 4 other classes to attend tomorrow!
Then I went home and worked at ten. First day: Success.

Aaand I fnished Mockingjay last night....I did it in one day so I wouldn't go crazy at school and work today not being able to read it. Someone PLEASE finish it, so I can talk to you about it?!?! I have mixed feelings. Was really disappointed about a few crucial parts. And I have never cried so much over a book. It wasn't the greatest, but I love the feeling you get when you read those books. It's impossible not to get it. I am super sad it's over and can't stop thinking about it. Critique?

phagocytosis.

Today I was examining a perfectly rectangular cut on my elbow when I was hit with a huge wave of nostalgia. Why? Because that cut is an abrasion on the distal region of my cubital hinge. And how do I know that? Because of Hosa. I joined Hosa my senior year because I am a huge nerd. I love medicine. I also love competing. And part of Hosa is going to state competition in March.

Me, Hannah, and Kelsey joined Hosa together and decided to participate in Hosa Bowl. It is an event where you form a team of 4 and learn absolutely everything there is to know about medicine. I had a full binder of packets filled with every question you could imagine. I learned it all. And I felt so incredibly smart.

So after practicing with Mr. Jackman (the health science teacher at the high school) and his facilitator Laura every B-Day lunch for about two months, we were practically doctors. Our minds were filled with phagocytosis and phimosis, cerumen and scabies. We knew all about Florence Nightingale and Elizabeth Hobbs. We went to state competition in Layton and spent two days there.

We didn't win our competition, but we breezed through three rounds and won by a landslide in those. We lost to the team that won the entire thing. So we didn't feel so bad. It was the funnest thing I did all year.

During the competition I got to meet Nicole Darias. I love the girl to death. She is so smart and so witty. We had the privilege to have her on our team.
During competition, Kelsey and I also ran a 5K without even practicing for it.
AND we impressed SO many people.
AND we got super duper smart.
AND we went swimming and went to Cracker Barrel and did whatever we wanted for 2 days when we weren't competing.

So, back to my nostalgia. I thought of the day today and realized that some of the other kids from Pleasant Grove that were in Hosa are in ORLANDO FLORIDA right now at Nationals because they placed first in their event. They are probably in Harry Potter land right now as I speak.

And my other point is, if you are a junior or sophomore and have any interest in medicine, SIGN UP FOR HOSA. It was SO much fun. And if you win, which can be easy in a lot of the events, you could get the chance to go to Florida and just hang out for six days.

Nicole won 3rd place in state for her Nutritional Knowledge event.
Our Hosa bowl team placed 5th in state. Out of about 32 other teams, we were FIFTH!!

Just thought I'd share that because those were good times. I'd do it all over again. So maybe you should do it. If you can. And live my dream. Hah.

The fingerprints are on the papillary skin layer.
medical jokes. har har har.

gradgeeeeation and all of its delights

The week of gradgeeation was prooobably the funniest of my life. I am so sad it's over, but ecstatic for summer and feel so LIBERATED! You want to see highlights? Well, here you go.

It snowed. Hard. And Alexis left her winder open. (heh heh heh)

Then we ate icees.

And signed yearbooks.

Then I loved Kelsey so much.

Then we went to Lagoon.

Then we saw this. Approximately seven muffin tops in different areas on one person? I do believe we have a record, ladies and gentlekids! And fresh sweat tacos with a circumference of about a foot below the armpit? ANOTHER RECORD!!

Then we rode this and held on to each other's chairs and taco muffin top woman scolded us and we made fun of her.

Then we rode this ride and got SPIT ON by SHARKS and SPIT ON BY WHALES and SPIT ON BY DOLPHUNS!!

Then we saw this. And laughed

Then we saw a group of thespians which included Edward Cullen with a butt chin.

Then Alexis's shoe broke. Then we tried to fix it with dental floss and everything else that Rachel (mom) had in her pack pack (which was pretty much an entire house). We failed.

Then we saw this. And laughed

Then we dressed up to get our picture taken.

Then they dressed up as harlots. Beautiful harlots.

Then they took our picture. And everything is funny in it.

Then we ate ice cream.

Then this was awkward.

Then Lindsey made a toast to Kathy Philibus by eating ice cream that was her very favorite color.

Then we stared at this and said "ouuuuuuuuuuuch" over and over. Poor Linzo

Then Hannah did this.

Then we got soaked. And I hated it.

Then we scraped all the skin off our bumbs doing this.

Then we lost our pants.
And I looked like a hidous boy scout and I didn't even care that much.

Then this happened and we died laughing.

Then we got terrified on the Terroride.

Then we went to the Senior Sunset and drew Sistow Wendy Beckett with chalk.

Then someone did this, and we laughed.

Then I loved a ginger.

Then we had a good time just friends hangin out having a good time and laughing together and hanging out.

Then Matt James cried.

THEN WE GRADGEEEEATED.

Then me and my mom did this.

Then Crusby sqeezed me 'cause he was proooud.

Then it was official. YIPPPEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then we went to the all-nighter and never laughed so hard before. And then we let loose because we were never going to see these dumbheads again. just kidding

Then we smoked hypothetical cigs and did grape lady.

Then we ate Costa Vida.

Then Sammi was Eve like Adam and Eve.

Then this happened.

Then me and Lindsey were really, really cool.

Then we loved the panoramic pirate and said "PUT YER TONGUE IN!!!!!!"

Then Brittany shook her thang like you have never seen anyone shake their thang.

Then we went to sleep. And maybe, just maybe, we coughed and it made us fart. Maybe that was just one of us. Maybe that was Kelsey. And maybe we laughed all night because of it.

Tip o' the cap to the last week of high school ever, and gradgeeation. You were the greatest. xoxoxox
